First Lt. Nick Aldrich, executive officer with the Minn. National Guard’s 850th Horizontal Engineer Co., surprised his family as Scuba Claus at the Mall of America’s Sea Life Aquarium on Dec. 22 after returning from Afghanistan. The 850th maintained supply routes, cleared mine fields, improved drainage, deconstructed non-essential bases and built a resiliency center, a gym and multiple guard towers during their eight-month deployment.
