College cross country: CSS, UWS compete at UMAC championships
The St. Scholastica and Wisconsin-Superior cross country teams will compete in the UMAC championships today at Benson (Minn.) Golf Club.
The men race at noon, with the women at 1 p.m.
Freshman Isaac Boedigheimer of Cloquet led the St. Scholastica men to 13th in the Saints last action on Oct. 14 at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational, with Boedigheimer recording the program's first top 20-finish at the invitational.
UWS and Martin Luther were the men's preseason co-favorites in the UMAC. The Yellowjackets finished ahead of St. Scholastica in all three meetings this fall. St. Scholastica has only seen Martin Luther once, at St. Olaf, where the Knights finished ahead of both UWS and CSS.
The St. Scholastica women are the two-time defending UMAC champions and have won 15 titles in the last 16 years. The Saints finished 14th at Oshkosh in their last action, ahead of UMAC opponents UWS and Northwestern and without standout Casey Hovland. The senior is expected to compete today, where she is looking to become the Saints' first three-peat winner.
