Prep report: Esko hires boys basketball coach
Esko has hired Derek Anderson to succeed Mike Devney as boys basketball coach.
The 29-year-old Anderson, a Cook native, had been an assistant with the Eskomos the past four seasons. He becomes the program's eighth head coach since 1934, according to the school, and replaces Devney, the 502-game winner whose contract wasn't renewed.
Esko was 28-5 this past winter and finished fifth at the Class AA state tournament.
Anderson, who played college basketball at St. Scholastica, is a teacher at Winterquist Elementary in Esko.

Winning pitcher Jon Baker struck out 10 and allowed one hit in four innings, while Gavin Rasmussen had a pair of hits, including a double, and three RBIs to lead the Lumberjacks to the Lake Superior Conference home win.
Cloquet capitalized on seven Denfeld errors.

Ryder McMillen's game-winning RBI capped the Mariners' two-out, five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as host Silver Bay claimed the Polar League contest.
Superior 5, Proctor 0
The visiting Spartans scored all five of their runs in the third inning, and Drake Samarzia, Derek Fender and Brandon Wing combined on a two-hit shutout in the LSC game.

Cloquet boys, girls win true team meet
Kendra Kelley was victorious in four events to pace the Cloquet girls to a comfortable win in the Section 7AA true team meet at Cloquet.
Kelley was first in the 100-meter dash (12.75 seconds), 200 (26.02), 400 (59.99) and long jump (15 feet, 9 inches), and the Lumberjacks finished with 100-plus more points than second-place Chisago Lakes Area, 750.5-649.
On the boys side, Cloquet amassed 588 points, while Grand Rapids was next at 543.5.
