Curling: Shuster team wins again
John Shuster and the American men turned in another solid performance against a team they'll face at next month's Olympic Games as they defeated Norway's Thomas Ulsrud on Friday at the Continental Cup of Curling in London, Ontario.
Shuster and his Duluth Curling Club team of Tyler George, Matt Hamilton and John Landsteiner defeated Team World's Ulsrud rink 8-3 to help Team North America extend its overall lead to three points at the Sports Centre at Western Fair District.
"That's always in the back of our minds when we're playing teams we're going to see at the Olympics," George said in a news release. "These are statement games and going in on a winning streak against the teams we'll see there — some of the top ranked teams like Norway and Sweden — it's a feather in our cap for sure, but just as much it's something that they keep in mind when we see them out there."
Nina Roth's North American women's team, which includes Duluthian Aileen Geving, beat Switzerland 5-4.
The second day of the Continental Cup drew to a close with North America leading 10.5-7.5.
