College volleyball: UMD's Kelly named All-American
Minnesota Duluth right-side hitter Sarah Kelly was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association first team Tuesday.
Kelly, a junior from Chaska, Minn., averaged a team-best 3.7 kills per set while hitting a program-record .414 on the season, ranking third in NCAA Division II. Kelly helped lead the Bulldogs to a 26-7 record, and she notched her 1,000th career kill in a four-set loss to Concordia-St. Paul in Saturday's Central Region championship match.
Kelly's teammate, Allison Olley, a senior middle blocker from Racine, Wis., was named All-American honorable mention after ranking ninth in the country in hitting percentage (.384) while adding a team-high 113 blocks.
UMD now has 43 AVCA All-America citations in the program's 41-year history and at least one in each of Jim Boos' 16 seasons. Kelly is the Bulldogs' 17th first-team recipient.
