Curling: Duluth rinks fare well at US Olympic Trials
Duluth-infused rinks had a good night Monday on Day 3 of the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Shuster, a Chisholm native and Superior resident, improved to 4-1 in the round-robin standings. Also on Shuster’s team are Duluth’s Tyler George, John Landsteiner and Joe Polo and Matt Hamilton of McFarland, Wis.
Tied with Shuster is Heath McCormick, whose team includes Duluth’s Chris Plys and Korey Dropkin. McCormick defeated Craig Brown 8-6.
Former Duluth resident Quinn Evenson, now of Fairbanks, Alaska, is on Brown’s team, which dropped to 1-4.
In women’s action, the Nina Roth team that includes Duluthian Aileen Geving improved to 3-1 by defeating Duluthian Cory Christensen 9-2 and Jamie Sinclair 8-7 in an extra end. Christensen and Sinclair are 1-2 in the three-team women’s field.
