Duluth police looking for driver who rammed squad, then fled traffic stop
The Duluth Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a driver who rammed a squad and fled a traffic stop in the city on Saturday night.
Authorities said the incident began at about 7:30 p.m. when an officer stopped a black Chevrolet Tahoe on Glen Place Drive, just above Michigan Street and just west of downtown, because the SUV had stolen plates.
"The driver immediately exited the vehicle and was ordered back in his car. While the officer waited outside his vehicle for backup, the vehicle accelerated in reverse and violently collided with the squad. The officer was narrowly able to evade being hit," Duluth police reported in a post on Facebook.
The driver fled the scene in the SUV, which was later located abandoned on the 2900 block of West Second Street. The SUV was later found to have been stolen.
The suspect had not been located as of Sunday night. He's described as a white male wearing a black jacket, dark-colored jeans, white shoes and a black baseball cap.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 911.
