Reserve Mining Co. workers at Babbitt and Silver Bay voted 1,536 to 248 this week to ratify an agreement between the United Steelworkers union and Reserve management. Production workers will be called back to work when facilities are readied, Reserve officials said yesterday.
The three Twin Ports colleges and universities will shift to early-in, early-out schedules next year, starting classes in early September and ending in May. UMD Provost Robert Heller said the new schedule will give students a better chance to find summer employment.

The city of Duluth's ambitious and popular street reconstruction program may be slowed down next year as city leaders search for ways to maintain existing streets. The city is having trouble finding money for both rebuilding and maintaining streets.
A law passed by the 1997 Minnesota Legislature prohibiting snowmobiles equipped with metal studs from operating on paved state trails will be in effect this winter. State officials say they started noticing damage from the studs a couple of winters ago.
