Open houses on campground restoration
The first of three open houses regarding planned restoration of the Birch Grove Campground in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Washburn will take place Tuesday.
The campground, along with boat landings and trails, was heavily damaged in a July 2016 windstorm and has been closed since then. The U.S. Forest Service announced in a news release that restoration is planned in two phases, starting with restoring the campground for use.
Preliminary maps and information about the proposal will be available for review and comment during the following open houses:
- 5 to 7 p.m. today, northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, 29270 County Highway G, Ashland.
- 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Bad River Community Center, 72772 Elm St., Odanah.
- 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 29, Washburn Public Library, 307 Washington Ave., Washburn.
