Democrat Doug Jones declared winner over Roy Moore

Business Snapshot: Northland Driving School

Name: Northland Driving School

Owner: Julie Spry

When was it founded? June 2017

Why did you start the business? I worked at the mall service center renewing driver's licenses and answered many questions regarding the driving rules. My kids were just starting to drive, so I studied the manual and became very interested in teaching driver's education. I thought there was an opportunity for another driving school in the Duluth area.

What's your competitive advantage? I'm a mom of four kids ages 14-21. I understand firsthand what it's like to go through the classes and behind-the-wheel process as a parent. I strive to have a respectful, informative and fun classroom every day. I am flexible with busy schedules, very organized and client-service oriented. The location is easily accessible for all area high school students, and parents are able to shop or dine in the area while waiting for their child to be done with the classroom lessons. I teach the behind-the-wheel lessons with pick up/drop off at their high school or home. I also have availability for adult behind-the-wheel lessons.

How's business? Business is growing as more kids and parents find out there is another option out there for their driver's education.

Where can we find you? I teach the classroom portion at 2306 Mountain Shadow Drive in the Village Mall. Students need 30 hours of classroom lessons to take their permit test and six hours of behind-the-wheel lessons to get their driver's license. Classroom lessons run Monday-Friday from 4-7pm. I will pick up/drop off students at their high school or home for behind-the-wheel lessons.

Where can we find you online? On Facebook, northlanddrivingschool.com, northlanddrivingschool@gmail.com or call (218) 221-6698.
